Qi Long Lu, MD, Ph.D

Dr. Lu is Director of the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory for Muscular Dystrophy Research at Atrium Health.  Dr. Lu is an adjunct professor at School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Dr. Lu’s main research interests are experimental therapies for limb girdle muscular dystrophies, including gene therapy, oligonucleotide therapies and drug development. He is considered one of the world’s leading experts studying LGMD2i and has chaired six International Workshops for Glycosylation Defects in Muscular Dystrophies.  Prior to his role in Atrium Health, Dr. Lu graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of London, England, UK. Dr. Lu practiced as a pathologist in the Shanghai Cancer Hospital for 10 years.  He was a Research Scientist in Muscle Cell Biology Lab in MRC Clinical Research Center, London UK after his Ph.D. study.
